Build a Career Operating Heavy Equipment

We are currently seeking an experienced, dependable, and safety-focused Heavy Equipment Operator for opportunities supporting commercial construction and site-development projects throughout Oklahoma.

This is a higher-tier equipment operating position intended for candidates who have legitimate hands-on experience operating heavy machinery and understand the responsibility that comes with working around employees, structures, materials, utilities, and active construction operations.

The strongest candidates will take pride in precision, safety, equipment care, productivity, and completing work correctly the first time.

Operators must be willing to travel to project sites throughout Oklahoma as project needs change.

Pay Based on Experience

Equipment Experience

Qualified candidates should have 1–3+ years of hands-on heavy equipment operating experience.

Experience may include:

• Backhoes

• Trackhoes

• Excavators

• Dozers

• Graders

• Water trucks

• SkyTraks / Telehandlers

• Forklifts

• Other construction and earthmoving equipment

Candidates are not necessarily required to be experienced on every piece of equipment listed, but must be able to demonstrate legitimate operating experience with multiple types of heavy machinery.

This position is not intended for candidates with little or no equipment operating experience.

What You'll Be Doing

Heavy Equipment Operators will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating equipment on active construction sites while following instructions from project supervisors, foremen, and superintendents.

Daily responsibilities may include:

• Safely operating heavy construction equipment

• Performing excavation and earthmoving work

• Moving and grading soil, rock, and construction materials

• Digging trenches and preparing work areas

• Assisting with site development

• Performing rough and finish grading as experience allows

• Loading and moving materials

• Backfilling excavated areas

• Operating equipment around active crews and other trades

• Following grading and survey stakes

• Reading and interpreting jobsite instructions

• Reading basic engineering or construction plans when required

• Completing assigned work according to project specifications

• Working around underground and above-ground utilities

• Maintaining awareness of personnel, equipment, structures, and hazards

• Coordinating equipment movement with spotters and ground personnel

• Assisting with general construction activities when equipment operation is not required

• Completing additional duties as project needs change

Equipment Inspections & Maintenance

Operators are expected to take responsibility for the equipment they are assigned to operate.

Daily responsibilities may include:

• Completing pre-operation equipment inspections

• Checking fluid levels

• Inspecting tires or tracks

• Checking hydraulic components

• Inspecting attachments

• Identifying leaks or visible damage

• Checking warning lights and gauges

• Confirming safety devices are operational

• Reporting mechanical problems immediately

• Keeping equipment clean and organized

• Properly parking and securing equipment after each shift

• Preventing unnecessary wear or damage

Operators must report equipment concerns before a minor issue becomes a major repair or safety hazard.

Precision Matters

Operating heavy equipment requires more than simply knowing how to move a machine.

Operators must understand how to work carefully and accurately around people, property, utilities, equipment, and finished work.

Strong operators will be able to:

• Maintain control of equipment at all times

• Understand machine limitations

• Judge distances accurately

• Work within confined areas

• Follow grade stakes and project markings

• Protect surrounding structures and materials

• Avoid unnecessary equipment damage

• Communicate effectively with spotters

• Adjust operating techniques based on site conditions

• Recognize unsafe operating conditions

• Stop work when conditions become unsafe

Careless equipment operation will not be tolerated.

Work Environment

This is a physically demanding, field-based construction position.

Candidates should be prepared to work:

• On active construction sites

• Outdoors for extended periods

• In hot weather

• In cold weather

• In windy conditions

• In dusty or muddy environments

• Around moving heavy equipment

• Around construction vehicles

• Around excavation areas

• Around other construction trades

• On uneven terrain

• During extended shifts when overtime is required

Project locations may change based on client and construction needs.

Candidates must be willing and able to travel throughout Oklahoma to assigned project sites.

Safety-Sensitive Position

This is a safety-sensitive position.

Heavy Equipment Operators may be responsible for machinery weighing thousands of pounds while working in close proximity to employees, structures, utilities, vehicles, and construction materials.

Candidates must demonstrate a serious commitment to workplace safety.

Operators will be expected to:

• Follow all company and project safety procedures

• Complete daily equipment inspections

• Wear required PPE

• Follow spotter instructions

• Maintain safe operating distances

• Use seat belts and installed safety equipment

• Follow established traffic patterns

• Maintain awareness of blind spots

• Never operate equipment recklessly

• Report unsafe conditions immediately

• Stop operations when conditions become unsafe

• Only operate equipment they are trained and authorized to use

Pre-Employment Requirements

Candidates must successfully satisfy all required pre-employment qualifications before placement.

Requirements include:

• National criminal background check

• 12-panel drug screening

• Ability to meet client background requirements, including restrictions involving theft, violent, or sexual offenses

• Valid driver's license

• Reliable transportation

• Ability to travel throughout Oklahoma

• Ability to meet all project-specific safety requirements

Because this is a safety-sensitive heavy equipment position, candidates must meet the client's drug-free workplace requirements.
