Summary Description: We are seeking a skilled Service Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Service Manager, you will be responsible for servicing and repairing semi-trailers, including box trucks, brakes, lights, seals, refrigeration units, and general maintenance to meet DOT standards. Your expertise will also be utilized in tasks such as replacing flooring, rub rails, doors and door trim, as well as conducting repairs to roofs, panels, nose panels, and upper rails.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your troubleshooting skills to perform routine and corrective maintenance on all vehicles, including braking systems, hydraulic and air systems for tractors and trailers. For Reefer Techs, you will also handle refrigeration unit maintenance.

  • Efficiently manage your time to prioritize repairs and communicate effectively with service writers, dispatchers, and the service manager. This includes relaying information if called to perform another service call before completing the current job.

  • Maintain up-to-date vehicle maintenance files, including all DOT compliance-related documentation for mechanical work performed on transport vehicles.

  • Safely operate company-owned motor vehicles, equipment, and tractor-trailer units within the terminal premises, as well as drive equipment safely on roadways for testing or delivering it to outside shops or customer premises.

  • Ensure accurate and well-maintained maintenance records, adhering to company policies and state/federal regulations.

  • Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills to effectively interpret safety rules, operating instructions, maintenance manuals, and procedures. Record entries on reports and maintenance records to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Uphold a safe and clean work environment at all times, wearing the proper safety equipment provided.

  • Perform additional duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications and Job Requirements:

  • Ability to work in diverse climate conditions. The company provides necessary safety gear such as rain gear, reflective vests, and gloves.

  • Flexibility in working hours is essential. Service calls, during normal business hours or after hours, may not always align with specific times or convenience.

  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills are necessary to effectively explain situations, repair timelines, and costs to owners, drivers, or dispatchers.

  • Self-starter with strong diagnostic abilities to determine needed repairs, evaluating whether they can be safely performed on-site or should be moved to a dealership facility.

  • Proficiency in welding, electrical work, fabrication, sheet metal, and mechanical repairs. Experience with diesel engines is a plus.

  • Positive attitude, willingness to learn new skills, and a self-motivated approach to work effectively with minimal supervision.

  • Valid driver's license with no restrictions and a good driving record.

  • Excellent attendance record, adjusted as per dealership location.

  • Adherence to dealership grooming and clothing guidelines.

  • Preferably DOT certified in FHWA Inspections & Air Brakes.

  • Must possess proper tools.

Physical Demands: The physical demands outlined below must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this role, you will regularly use your hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, and communicate orally. You will frequently stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasional sitting and climbing or balancing may be required. The ability to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and objects exceeding 100 pounds occasionally is essential. Specific vision abilities, including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus, are required. Work will take place outside in various weather conditions, such as extreme heat and cold, rain, snow, and ice, as well as around moving objects
